Cookie Policy
What cookies and local storage we use, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences.
Effective Date: 1 February 2026 | Last Updated: 9 February 2026
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to website owners.
This website also uses localStorage, a browser-based storage mechanism similar to cookies but stored locally on your device without being sent to the server.
2. Cookies We Use
We take a minimal approach to cookies and tracking. Here is a complete list of what we store:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
theme |
localStorage | Stores your dark/light mode preference | Persistent (until cleared) | Essential / Functional |
That's it. We do not use:
- Analytics cookies (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom)
- Advertising or tracking cookies
- Social media tracking pixels
- Session cookies
- Third-party cookies set by our code
3. Third-Party Cookies
While we do not set third-party cookies ourselves, some external services loaded on our pages may set their own cookies:
3.1 Google Fonts
We load fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Google may log your IP address when fonts are loaded. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy
3.2 YouTube Thumbnails
We display YouTube video thumbnails (images only, not embedded players). YouTube/Google may set cookies when these images are loaded. We do not embed YouTube players with tracking.
3.3 Formspree
Our contact form is processed by Formspree. When you submit the form, Formspree processes the data according to their privacy policy: formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy
4. Cookie Categories Explained
Essential / Functional Cookies
These are necessary for the website to function properly. Our theme preference storage falls into this category — it remembers whether you prefer dark or light mode so you don't have to set it every visit.
Analytics Cookies
We do not use analytics cookies. We do not track your behavior, page views, or session data.
Advertising Cookies
We do not use advertising cookies. We do not run ads, retarget visitors, or share data with ad networks.
5. Managing Cookies
You can control and manage cookies and localStorage in several ways:
5.1 Browser Settings
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Note that blocking all cookies may affect website functionality.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and Site Permissions
5.2 Clearing localStorage
To clear our theme preference:
- Open your browser's Developer Tools (F12)
- Go to the Application/Storage tab
- Find localStorage for lvmre.com
- Delete the
themekey
5.3 Do Not Track
We respect the Do Not Track (DNT) browser signal. Since we don't track users in the first place, DNT has no practical effect on our site — but we support the principle.
6. GDPR & POPIA Compliance
Under both GDPR and POPIA, essential/functional cookies do not require explicit consent as they are necessary for the website to function. Since we only use one functional localStorage item (theme preference), no cookie consent banner is required.
If we ever add analytics or non-essential cookies in the future, we will update this policy and implement a proper consent mechanism before doing so.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
